Aresimowicz Formally Announces Reelection Campaign

The Democratic state rep is seeking a seventh term representing Berlin and Southington.

BERLIN, CT - Six-term State Rep. Joe Aresimowicz made it official Thursday — he will seek reelection in the 30th Assembly District representing Berlin and Southington.

“In response to the incredible support I’ve received, I am pleased to officially announce my candidacy for State Representative for the 30th District. It has been a distinct honor serving as a State Representative and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to serve my constituents in Berlin and Southington,” Aresimowicz said in a statement. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to build on our many successes in the 30th District.”

In the two weeks after a campaign kick-off event, Aresimowicz has received enough contributions to qualify for the Citizen’s Election Program (CEP). He and his campaign committee, “Friends of A-Z,” have been seeking small donations between $5 and $100 from eligible donors in order to raise $5,000 in qualifying contributions to participate in the CEP. They held their only fundraising event on Feb. 1 at The Pine Loft in Berlin, and already have raised well over $5,000 from more than 150 Berlin and Southington residents, according to the announcement.

The Berlin native is popularly known as “Coach Joe” around town. He is a long-time volunteer in youth athletics, from coaching basketball and the town’s Little League to directing Berlin Midget Football. He also is an assistant football coach for Berlin High School.

Aresimowicz said that he “has worked effectively with local elected officials to move forward and fund much needed projects, such as the Senior Center and YMCA renovations in Southington and the train station and Village area on Farmington Avenue in Berlin.”

“I got involved because of my kids, and wanting to make sure they had a safe and friendly community to grow up in,” said Aresimowicz. “Since then, I’ve worked every day for the same basic things that matter to our community. Helping make sure high school athletes can compete safely, working to ensure our seniors have access to affordable prescription drugs, and helping our small business owners who need permits or support from the state get those services quickly.”

He has received many awards during his 11-year tenure, including the 2015 CCPA Community Champion Award, the 2014 and 2015 AARP Legislative Achievement Awards and has been named a Children’s Champion by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance for three consecutive years.

Aresimowicz was first elected in 2004 and serves as the House Majority Leader.
