BERLIN, CT — Thursday is a big day in Berlin and something folks from throughout the area always look forward to is about to happen — the first day of the annual Berlin Fair.

For the first time ever, a fourth day has been added to the event, turning the three-day extravaganza into a four-day celebration.

The event begins on Thursday, Sept. 15, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Berlin Fairgrounds, located at 430 Beckley Road.

It continues Friday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

As always, the Berlin Fair, hosted by the Berlin Lions Club since 1949, will feature the usual cornucopia of food, music, rides, arts and crafts as well as a heaping dose of community spirit.

Children 11 and under are free, with adults $15 (except for Thursday, which is $10), seniors 62 and over $10 and active military members with an ID also free.

One issue folks should be wary of, according to the Lions Club, are fake tickets to the event.

Organizers even posted something on Facebook about the issue.

"Please be mindful of where you purchase your tickets. There are lots of scams on the internet, and people trying to sell you tickets that they don’t have," wrote fair organizers.

"A good rule of thumb is to only buy from a trusted friend/family member or from the Lions club online or at the gates. We would hate to see anyone scammed."

Meanwhile, the Berlin Police Department posted traffic warnings associated with the fair, as traffic patterns will be impacted near the site.

"There will be significant traffic pattern changes in the area of Wethersfield Road, Beckley Road, Berlin Street and Route 372," wrote police on Facebook.

"Delays should also be expected on all area streets including Berlin Turnpike through Sunday due to increased fair traffic."

Police said weekend parking at the fairgrounds fills quickly and motorists are encouraged to use free shuttle lots located at Assa Abloy at 225 Episcopal Road (from 1 p.m. to closing on Friday and 9 a.m. to closing on Saturday and Sunday) and Eversource headquarters at 107 Selden St. (from 5 p.m. to closing Friday and 9 a.m. to closing on Saturday and Sunday).

Berlin police are working with the GPS app WAZE as well as Google Maps and both apps *should* direct traffic according to the changing patterns.

"If in doubt, there is plenty of signage which should be followed for the most direct route," wrote police. "Please be patient and kind and have a safe fair season."
