Community Kindness Helps Recent Berlin HS Grad Get To College

The Berlin community raised funds to secure a special van to help the UHart student with muscular dystrophy attend college this year.

BERLIN, CT — A community effort to help a recent Berlin High School graduate go off to college has proven successful this summer.

According to Berlin High School, funds have been raised and donated to provide recent graduate Jackson Rodriguez with a specialized van for college.

BHS made the announcement earlier this month.

"Jackson, a Berlin High School graduate and future University of Hartford student, lives with muscular dystrophy," wrote BHS.

"With the support of the Berlin community and the generosity of Schaller Subaru of Berlin, he'll now have a specialized van to get to and from class, a game changer for his independence and success in college."

According to BHS, helping out in the effort were school staffers to local law enforcement and community organizations.

"This was a true team effort, and a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when we come together. Way to go, Berlin. Jackson’s next chapter just got a whole lot brighter," wrote school officials.
