Berlin Police said Monday they have arrested the man they believe has been dumping “pornographic material and trash with offensive and racist remarks” around town for the past two years.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect — a 58-year-old man from Bristol, and formally charged him with 44 counts of second-degree breach of peace on Monday morning.

Police said, “The Town of Berlin has had numerous incidents over the past two years of an individual distributing pornographic material and trash with offensive and racist remarks hand written on them. Although this has been occurring in our community, predominantly in the Savage Hill Road area for the past two years, it has been occurring all over Connecticut for the past 13 years.”

“As a result of the investigative efforts of the Berlin Police Department, a suspect was developed in this case. A search warrant was executed the suspect’s home in Bristol at which time a large amount of evidence was seized. It appears that the distribution of this material was random and not specifically targeted towards the individual locations where this material was dumped,” police said.

The suspect was identified as Gilbert Lévesque, of 44 Spelman St., Bristol. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment in New Britain Superior Court on Nov. 18.

He was turned over to Southington Police who charged him in connection with material he is accused of leaving in that town. Details on those charges were not immediately available.
