In 2024, BFD Had Nearly 7K Calls, 75% For Emergency Medical/Rescues

BRANFORD, CT — Beyond the increase in calls for service, of note is that the majority of the near-7,000 calls were for emergency medical services or rescues and, that the number of actual fires knocked down were very few.

In total, there were 6,973 calls for service, 163 more than in 2023.

Of those, 75 percent, or 5,251 calls, to be precise, were for rescue and emergency medical services.

Hazardous conditions without fire, general service, "good intent," and false alarm calls made up more than 22 percent of all calls, with fires the smallest sliver of the pie chart.

And while there may have been a smaller number of fires, the ones firefighters battled included: a December 2024 tragic fatal fire; an August predawn fully-involved garage fire on Wilford Avenue fire where a neighbor called 911 then alerted sleeping residents; and a March gas station/convenience store roof fire that injured one person.

August 2024 had the most calls for service at 633 and April had the least, at 504.
