After Nearly 4 Decades, Chowder Pot III Of Branford Closes Its Doors

BRANFORD, CT — Check the thousands upon thousands of stellar reviews. People loved this eatery. Trip Advisor said it was the third-best restaurant in Branford out of 60 eateries. Sunday's shocking Facebook from the seafood spot post has thousands saddened.
"With a heavy heart I have to announce the closing of our doors today," owner and chef John Bencivengo Jr. wrote. "I want to say thank you for all the love and support you have shown myself and Chowder Pot lll throughout the years. I could not have done it without all of you, my staff and my family."

Just days before, the restaurant posted its full entertainment and music schedule for the month of March, which includes its popular bingo and trivia nights, and then suddenly, canceled a show. A visit to its website doesn't reveal any information on the sudden closure.
The East Main Street restaurant, which often had a line of folks waiting on tables, has nearly 9,000 Facebook followers. On his post, more than 800 commented, with most containing a similar refrain: the closure is a loss for the community.

"Heartbreaking news. Glad I had my final dinner last night, which was amazing by the way. Best of luck to everyone going forward. This is a big loss for Branford," one person wrote, but scores of others concurred.
A cursory search of state records shows that the restaurant's liquor license, though "active," expires March 8.
