Attempted ATM Theft At Mobil Interrupted By Branford Patrol Officer

They got away, but without the ATM machine, police said, adding the car they were driving was later found unoccupied in Hamden "in flames."

BRANFORD, CT — During the overnight hours of Dec. 22, "unknown individuals attempted to steal an ATM from Evan’s Mobil on North Main Street in Branford," police said.

"A vigilant Branford Police officer on patrol interrupted the theft in progress, causing the suspects to flee the scene in a stolen vehicle," police noted in a Facebook post Friday.

"The suspects were unable to successfully steal the ATM, which was damaged, but left behind," police wrote. "The officer initiated a pursuit, but it was terminated shortly after due to the suspects’ dangerously high speeds, prioritizing public safety. The vehicle was later located unoccupied in Hamden engulfed in flames."
