Branford VFW Post Hosts Free Vietnam Vets 'Welcome Home' Breakfast

BRANFORD, CT — Breakfast is on them.
The Branford VFW Post 12106 Walter Dymarczyk Memorial Post, is celebrating 'Welcome Home, Vietnam Vets Day' with a free breakfast for Vietnam veterans.
In 2017, Congress passed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act. The act set March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Day to honor those who served in the Vietnam War and to give citizens the chance to say ‘Welcome Home’ to Vietnam veterans, who the Act notes did not receive the "reception they deserved."

Why March 29?
According to Vietnam War Commemoration's website, March 29, 1973 was the day "U. S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and also the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam." And, "on and around this same day, Hanoi released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war," it's noted.

The Branford VFW Post 12106 has set March 27 for the 'welcome home' breakfast. The free breakfast event runs from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Parthenon Diner, 374 East Main Street in Branford.
No reservations or RSVP necessary, "Just stop in," said the VFW Post in a news release.
