Movement On To Name Senior/Rec Center After Branford Legend

BRANFORD, CT -There is a movement among some in town to name the soon-to-be renovated Branford Senior and Recreation Center after Joe Trapasso, who served for for decades as Branford's recreation director.

At the most recent Representative Town Meeting, RTM member Darren Lawler implored his fellow RTM members to contact the Board of Directors of the Recreation Department to join him in encouraging them to name the new center after Trapasso.

Lawler said: "He served the town for over 40 years - he built that community house with his hare hands."
"It would be a travesty if our new senior/rec center wasn't named Joe Trapasso," Lawler went on. "He put us on the map" as Branford being one of the best recreation community programs in the state.

Trapasso, who passed away in 2003, moved to Branford in 1951 and became recreation director where he served until his retirement in 1992.
When he retired in 1992, the gymnasium at the Branford Community House was re-named the Joe Trapasso Gymnasium in his honor.
