Officer, K-9 Find Man Who Fled From Serious Branford Crash: PD

BRANFORD, CT — It only took a few days for the Branford police department's new K-9 patrol team to have an impact in the department.

Overnight Tuesday, a man who was involved in a serious one car accident fled the scene on foot and was found by the Branford Police Department's K-9 team, police announced on social media.

At 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to the 200 block of East Main Street for the accident. A witness saw the driver flee the scene on foot into the woods north of the area of the crash, police said. K-9 Officer Carney and K-9 Arrow responded to assist.

After a short track, K-9 Officer Carney and K-9 Arrow located the driver at 4:23 a.m. bedded down in some very thick vegetation, police said. The accused surrendered and was detained by police without incident, police said.

The driver was identified as Brian Spinato, 39, of Branford. Due to the seriousness of the crash and the injuries Spinato sustained while operating the vehicle, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending for Spinato. It was determined no other occupants were involved in the crash.
