Branford police department was recently recognized for being top fundraising department in the state of Connecticut for Special Olympics.

BRANFORD, CT - Branford police officer Josef Herten spent the past weekend doing what he's come to do best - raising money for the Special Olympics.
But Officer Herten took it to another level this year - plunging 24 times - or once an hour for 24 hours into the cold ocean waters off of Westbrook.
Herten and his fellow officers raised $16,000 in the first "Super Plunge" held in Connecticut. More than 25 percent of that total - or $4,000 - was raised by Herten through the fundraising he and others do to help Special Olympics in Branford.
