Kitchen Fire Damages Fairfield House After Power Outage
It appeared a burner had been left on at the stove or ignited after a power outage was restored, a fire official said.

FAIRFIELD, CT — In a week when many homes were damaged by falling trees after Tropical Storm Isaias, one Fairfield house was damaged by fire.
Firefighters responded about 11 a.m. Thursday to a kitchen fire on London Terrace, according to Fairfield Fire Department Lt. Robert Smith, who said it appeared a burner had been left on at the stove or ignited after a power outage was restored.
No one was injured in the blaze and the occupants of the residence were not home at the time of the fire, Smith said, adding power had been out in the house before the incident. The fire department warned residents Thursday about the risks that can accompany an outage.

“As power begins to be restored to homes around Town, please be sure that your stoves and cook tops are turned off and are clear of items ... that may have been placed on them since the power has been out,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Damage at the London Terrace house was mainly contained to the stove, except for smoke damage, according to Smith.
