Ballet Hartford Brings “A Ceremony of Carols” To Hill-Stead Museum
Choreographed by Claire Kretzschmar, Ballet Hartford's Artistic Director and former New York City Ballet Soloist; Performances November 23

Ballet Hartford, Connecticut's premier ballet company, will debut its innovative "Behind the Ballet" series with A Ceremony of Carols at the Hill-Stead Museum on Saturday, November 23, 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in the company's fall season, offering audiences an intimate look into the creative process of ballet.
The event features two unique experiences:
- 3 p.m.: Open Dress Rehearsal
- 7 p.m.: Evening Ballet Demonstration and Moderated Discussion
A Ceremony of Carols is a new ballet choreographed by Claire Kretzschmar, Ballet Hartford's Artistic Director and former New York City Ballet Soloist. Set to Benjamin Britten's composition of the same name, this piece is part of a larger work that will tour multiple cities in December.

The open rehearsal invites artists to sketch, and children will have the opportunity to enjoy an interactive experience. The evening program features a ballet demonstration and discussion about the intricate process of creating a ballet, offering insights rarely available to the public.

A Ceremony of Carols highlights the nativity story using an angelic cast of 13 women. Kretzschmar's masterful choreography and musicality usher in the holiday season and the performance is quickly becoming a new Christmas tradition.
This event is part of Ballet Hartford's dynamic fall season, which includes performances at non-traditional spaces across central Connecticut, including the Wadsworth Mansion in Middletown on November 24. The Hill-Stead Museum provides an intimate setting that offers audiences a truly unique experience.
Ballet Hartford will bring A Ceremony of Carols to audiences in New York City, Philadelphia and Winston-Salem, N.C. on December 9, 11, and 15, respectively.
