Among the list of safety tips for drivers are

• Slow down and stay alert, especially in school zones, neighborhoods, and near bus stops.

• Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm. Yellow lights are a signal for drivers to slow down and prepare to stop.

• Be prepared for frequent stops as buses load and unload students.

• Yield to crossing guards and always obey their signals.

• Eliminate distractions. Do not text or use handheld devices while driving.

• Watch for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly near schools and crosswalks.

The town also offered some safety tips for parents and pupils:

• Arrive at bus stops early and wait safely away from the road.

• Always cross streets at designated crosswalks and follow crossing guard directions.

• Walk, don’t run, when getting on or off the school bus.

• Put phones and headphones away when walking near traffic.

"The safety of our students is a shared responsibility for all residents. Thank you for helping us ensure a safe and successful start to the school year," wrote the town.
