Farmington HS Ribbon-Cutting Moved Indoors Due To Weather: UPDATE

The event, slated for 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, will take place inside the new school due to the threat of thunderstorms.

FARMINGTON, CT — An uncertain weather forecast has prompted those organizing Monday night's ribbon-cutting/tours of the new Farmington High School building to move the event indoors.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature community speakers and the ceremonial taking of scissors to a ribbon from 5 to 5:45 p.m. at the new school site, near the old FHS at 10 Monteith Drive, Farmington.

After the ceremony, the public will be able to take tours of the massive, new, state-of-the-art high school from 5:45 to 8 p.m.

Originally slated for outside, Farmington officials said the event had to be moved indoors. School starts on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

"Due to the weather forecast of severe storms, tonight’s ribbon-cutting ceremony has been moved inside to the gymnasium," wrote the town.

"Before the event begins, the Farmington Police Department will provide traffic control for parking, and they will direct you to available parking spaces. Please enter the building through the 'Event Entrance' indicated on the parking map.

"We are expecting a very large turnout for this event, so please plan accordingly for traffic."
