Son Accused Of Stabbing, Killing Father in Farmington: Police

The 31-year-old suspect is accused of murdering his 62-year-old father on Friday in Farmington.

FARMINGTON, CT — A 31-year-old Farmington man is accused of stabbing and killing his father Friday afternoon at the victim's Birch Street residence.

According to the Farmington Police Department, which announced the murder charge Monday morning, the suspect has been identified as Joshua Popielarczyk, 31.

Police said he has been charged with murder, and he is scheduled to be arraigned at the Litchfield Judicial District at Torrington on Monday, Nov. 17.

Popielarczyk is accused of stabbing and killing his father, David Popielarczyk, 62.

According to police, officers were called to Birch Street at about 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, for a report of an untimely death under suspicious circumstances.

"Upon arrival, officers located a 62-year-old male in the living room who appeared to have sustained multiple areas of trauma," wrote the FPD on Monday morning. "These injuries were later determined to be multiple stab wounds."

Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as David Popielarczyk.

"A cooperative and comprehensive investigation was immediately undertaken by the Farmington Police Department, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police, the Avon Police Department, the Office of the State’s Attorney for the Litchfield Judicial District at Torrington, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner," wrote Farmington police.

Based on investigative findings and the medical examiner’s formal ruling, the death of David Popielarczyk was classified as a homicide.

In the subsequent investigation, the victim's son was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

"The Farmington Police Department extends its appreciation to all partnering agencies for their assistance in this case," wrote police.

Police said no further information will be released for now, and the investigation remains "active and ongoing."
