CT DOT's Automated Work Zone Speed Control Deployed At Glastonbury Project

GLASTONBURY, CT — A program to reduce work zone speeding is part of a project in Glastonbury.

Town officials Friday said that the Connecticut Department of Transportation is using Automated Work Zone Speed Control within the limits of State Project No 0053-0196 — the rehabilitation of the bridge and Route 2 eastbound lane modifications from Exit 4B to Exit 6 (formerly Exit 6 to Exit 8).

"This deployment will be for the purposes of equipment calibration and data collection. No warnings or citations are being issued to vehicle owners during the deployment," DOT officials said.

The Connecticut DOTY has implemented a program to strengthen "ongoing efforts to improve the safety of CTDOT work zones."

The CTDOT "Know the Zone: Automated Work Zone Speed Control Program is designed to reduce speeding, crashes, injuries and fatalities in work zones via the use of speed safety cameras to capture information about vehicles that speed through select work zones.

The registered owners of the vehicles captured speeding by the automated work zone speed control program typically are issued warnings or citations by mail.
