Eversource Begins Tree Trimming Around Glastonbury

The utility said the trimming of tree limbs will help reduce the chances of power outages during storms.

Many Connecticut communities have experienced the devastation Mother Nature caused during the recent winter storms with heavy snow, pounding rains and high winds that brought down tree limbs and branches, and electric lines causing power outages.

To minimize the threat of continuing problems, this week Eversource began its tree limb trimming and removal program in Glastonbury. Tree trimming is expected to be complete by the end of June.

Eversource said it has been notifying customers if work needs to be done on their property. Asplundh Tree Expert Co. will be working as a contractor for Eversource along more than 50 miles of Eversource power lines.

Work is taking place on the following roads: Ash Swamp Road, Bailey Street, Birch Mountain, Birch Trail, Brook Street, Chestnut Hill Road, Delma Road, Diamond Lake Road, Eastbury Hill, Eastbury Pond Road, Fisher Hill Road, Forest Lane, Francis Drive, Goodale Hill Road, Hebron Avenue, Lake Shore Trail, Laurel Trail, Manchester Road, Marlborough Road, Quail Run, Quarry Road, Shoddy Mill Road, Springside Trail, Thompson Street and Weir Street.

“While we all love our trees, they can have a devastating effect on the electric system during a storm,” Sean Redding, Senior Arborist at Eversource, said in a statement. “Our team of certified arborists works closely with the tree warden in every community where we trim trees to strike the right balance of esthetics and reliable electric service. Where tree work has been done, we have seen fewer power outages.”

Eversource has coordinated the work with Glastonbury Tree Warden Greg Foran.

Residents with questions can contact Foran at 860-652-7686.
