Glastonbury Man Charged With Strangulation: Police

The man placed a victim in a chokehold, which prevented him from breathing and from calling 911, a Glastonbury police investigation found.

GLASTONBURY, CT — A Glastonbury man faces a handful of charges, including strangulation, that stem from what police called a "domestic dispute."

Glastonbury police responded to 23 Kreiger Lane Apt. C on Feb. 23 at around 6:22 p.m. There, they arrested 34-year-old Steven M. Smith.

An investigation found Smith placed a victim in a chokehold, preventing him from breathing, police said. He also stopped the victim from calling 911, according to police reports.

Smith was charged with strangulation/third-degree suffocation, interfering with an emergency call, disorderly conduct, and failure to comply with a fingerprint request.

He was taken into custody without incident, then released with a court date scheduled for Feb. 24.
