📰 News we're reading

1. CT DOT's Automated Work Zone Speed Control Deployed At Glastonbury Project (patch.com) — Drivers in Glastonbury will see automated speed cameras in the Route 2 work zone between Exits 4B and 6 as the state tests new safety technology. For now, DOT is only calibrating equipment and collecting data, so no warnings or tickets are being mailed yet. The program aims to cut speeding and crashes in local construction areas by monitoring vehicles that travel too fast through work zones.

2. Teen Charged In Glastonbury Larceny Investigation (patch.com) — Residents of Glastonbury’s Georgetown Drive and Apple Hill neighborhoods are learning more about a recent series of vehicle-related thefts that led to the arrest of an 18-year-old from Waterbury. Police say the teen and an accomplice entered local buildings and vehicles, then crashed a car and fled before being caught near East River Drive in East Hartford. He now faces multiple burglary, larceny, weapons, and interfering charges connected to the Glastonbury incidents.

3. 25 affected by fuel delivery mix-up, delivery company stays silent (wfsb.com) — A Glastonbury auto repair shop owner is helping explain why some local drivers face huge bills after a Southington gas station accidentally pumped diesel into gas tanks and vice versa. About 25 vehicles were damaged, with repairs reaching tens of thousands of dollars, and state consumer protection officials urge anyone who fueled up there on Nov. 29 and has problems to file a complaint.

4. Southington running back Ben Beaulieu has gone from 3rd string to touchdown machine (greenwichtime.com) — Glastonbury football fans will recognize Southington running back Ben Beaulieu, the sophomore who scored five touchdowns in the Blue Knights’ 35–30 quarterfinal win over Glastonbury. A former third-stringer, he’s since powered Southington’s seven-game streak into the Class LL title game with nearly 900 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in essentially half a season.
