2 Hospitalized After Car Strikes Utility Pole, Flips In Groton
A car hit a utility pole late Wednesday night, resulting in a power outage in Groton, according to fire officials.

GROTON, CT — A car struck a utility pole and flipped over Wednesday, leading to two people being hospitalized, according to the City of Groton Firefighters Union.
Firefighters were dispatched to the area of Tyler Avenue and Shennecossett Road to determine the cause of a reported power outage at 11:26 p.m.
While they were on route, dispatchers informed them of a motor vehicle crash involving a car striking a telephone pole with low hanging wires.

Crews found a vehicle resting on its roof with extensive damage.
Both people in the car were able to escape on their own prior to firefighters' arrival. They were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for evaluation of their injuries.

Other agencies responding included the Groton City Police Department, Groton Ambulance, Lawrence + Memorial Medics, and Groton Telecommunicators.
"We’d also like to extend our appreciation to the residents and community members who offered water and support to first responders as crews worked to secure the scene," the firefighters union wrote.
