Traffic Alert Issued Ahead Of Mystic Road Race (patch.com) — Drivers in Groton should prepare for temporary road closures in the Mystic section on Saturday morning, December 20, as the Merry Mystic Mile road race takes over several downtown streets. Groton police will close portions of Pearl Street, Grove Avenue, Clift Street, and Eldridge Street from about 8:30 to 10 a.m., urging motorists and spectators to stay alert and prioritize safety.

Volunteers range from retired teachers to UConn Avery Point students and local company employees, offering 30-minute weekly visits focused on social-emotional support, simple activities, and building trusted relationships—though a growing waitlist shows demand still exceeds capacity.
   

4. Defense bill will boost CT contractors, including Electric Boat (bristoledition.org) — Major new federal defense funding is headed toward Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard, supporting Virginia- and Columbia-class submarine work and helping cover recent wage increases for shipyard workers. The bill also backs Coast Guard projects in nearby New London and boosts other Connecticut defense manufacturers, while adding military pay raises and new oversight requirements for the Trump administration’s Pentagon policies.
