GROTON, CT — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Groton area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Groton area:

  1. Noank Community Support Services: NCSS operates a gender-responsive and trauma-informed therapeutic group home for young women aged 14 to 18 who are referred by the State of CT Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  2. Groton Animal Foundation: The foundation has a mission to raise funds to subsidize the general needs of the Town of Groton Animal Control.
  3. Community Speaks Out: CSO has a mission to improve the community by providing education, prevention and resources to individuals and their families affected by drug/alcohol addiction.
  4. Groton Community Meals: This group is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that serves free meals on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Groton Senior Center and Thames River Magnet School.
  5. MALTA: The volunteer-based group's continuing mission is to reach people experiencing homelessness living outdoors or in shelters in Southeastern Connecticut, as well as through other area charitable organizations.
