Community Responds Following Fatal Groton Towers Fire
The blaze left 75 families without housing. The town will be taking donations directly to help those impacted.

GROTON, CT — The town is providing ways residents can help the victims of a massive fire that left one dead and dozens of others displaced.
The fire struck Groton Towers on Saturday afternoon.

Several residents were trapped on the building's balconies. Firefighters rescued or removed those residents by using ladders and ladder trucks.
One of the victims died due to their injuries, fire officials said. The person's identity has not been released.

The Town of Groton released the following on its Facebook page about the town's response:
Our hearts go out to those affected by the fire at Groton Towers. One life was lost and 75 families have been left without housing. Those impacted can reach out to the Town of Groton's Human Services Department for assistance. The Department is located at 2 Fort Hill Road in Groton. You can also call 860-441-6760 or email humanser@groton-ct.gov.
Human Services will also be taking donations to directly help those impacted. Please reach out to Human Services if you would like to donate food, gift cards, cash, or cleaning supplies. Please wait on donating clothing at this time until the exact needs are known.
Office hours are M-F 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
