Crews Fight Back-To-Back Fires In Groton

Two fires were reported within minutes of each other Wednesday evening, according to the firefighters union.

GROTON, CT — Crews extinguished two back-to-back fires in Groton on Wednesday evening, according to a post from the City of Groton Firefighters Union.

The first was reported at 7:14 p.m. on the South End of the City. Crews arrived to find smoke and determined the source was food on the stove.

Five minutes later, a second report came in for a structure fire on the North End. With firefighters tied up with the other fire, mutual aid was requested.

The Sub-Base and Poquonnock Bridge fire departments responded to the first-alarm blaze. Once Groton City firefighters cleared the South End fire, they joined as well.

Crews contained and extinguished the blaze, and everyone in the home made it out safely.

The American Red Cross provided assistance to two adults and a child affected by a Riverside Avenue fire. This included providing a comfort kit with essential supplies and helping residents to determine a long-term recovery plan.
