Groton Man Poured Gasoline On Home While Woman, Toddler Were Inside, Police Say

A man was charged with attempted arson following an incident in Groton, police said.

GROTON, CT — A man was charged with attempted arson after he poured gasoline on a home while a woman and her young child were inside, according to City of Groton police.

Police received a call at 4:32 p.m. Aug. 15 from a woman who said a man was outside her house pouring gasoline around it.

Officers arrived and could smell the odor of gasoline at the home. Police also found that a woman and her 2-year-old child were inside the home at the time.

A 37-year-old Groton man is accused of breaking a glass table at the rear of the home, then walking around to the front of the home carrying a gas can. He then poured gasoline around the home's foundation and ran away after the victim saw him doing this.

Police discovered that the man had been picked up and taken to New London. He was later arrested.

No one was injured.

The man was charged with first-degree criminal attempt of arson, second-degree reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child, and second-degree criminal mischief.

He was held on $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Aug. 18.
