Over 1,000 Attend Groton Library's 10th Annual Bumpers & Books
The event, "no ordinary trunk-or-treat," included 45 car trunks decorated to represent books, authors, and Dewey decimal call numbers.

GROTON, CT — The Groton Public Library held its 10th Annual Bumpers & Books last weekend, deeming the event "a huge success."
The event attracted nearly 1,100 people visit the library to see 45 car trunks decorated to represent books, authors, and Dewey decimal call numbers.
"The event promotes literacy and encourages community members to visit the library and get excited about books," Kim Balentine, of the library, said.

In addition to the cars, children could participate in face painting, crafts and button-making, tattoos, and balloon artistry.
Attendees were also able to wander through the Book Patch and select a free, brand-new book, according to a library statement.

At the Picture Patch, attendees could take family portraits and selfies. There was also a Cemetery of Banned Books and lawn games, too.
Free food was provided via a donation arranged through the Groton Police Department.
The Crow & Cauldron Witch Dancers were special guests. They performed and served as judges for best trunks, where five trophies and eight medallions were awarded.
Community groups at the event included SEAT Bus, Modern Aviation, Marine Science Magnet High School, Texas Road House, KinderPlay, The Groton Police, Fire, and Rec. Departments, Amtrak Police, Back the Blue, and the MOMS Club of GLMS.
