TS Henri: Flash Flood Warning For Parts Of New London County

The warning covers shoreline from Waterford to Pawcatuck, and North Stonington. The Natioanl Weather Service says, "move to higher ground."

GROTON, CT — The National Weather Service is New York issued a flash flood warning for Groton, Groton Long Point, New London and surrounding communities at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The warning which is effect until 1 p.m., urges residents in those towns to "move to higher ground immediately" and "avoid" rising waters.

Just before 11 a.m., radar showed an area of heavy rain moving in and rainfall of up to 4 inches is expected, according to the National Weather Service. Impacts include flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Communities affected also include Waterford, Ledyard Center, and North Stonington.

Tropical Storm Henri is forecast to make landfall near the Connecticut/Rhode Island border between 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday as a "strong tropical storm with sustained winds of 65 MPH and gusts to 80 MPH," according to the the National Hurricane Center.
