MIDDLETOWN, CT — The body of a woman who has been missing in the Connecticut River since February has been located and identified as a Middletown resident, police said Thursday night.

The incident dates back to Feb. 25, when, at 7:44 p.m., Middletown Police were called to Harbor Park, located at 80 Harbor Drive, after receiving information that a woman had intentionally driven her vehicle into the Connecticut River.

The vehicle, a 2016 Audi Q5, was located under water but unoccupied, police said.

Police and fire crews worked extensively to find the woman, but with no success, and the search was eventually suspended.

At 6:25 p.m. Thursday, Middletown detectives were contacted by the the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's ENCON Police Department to say she had been located. ENCON officers and state troopers descended on Haddam Meadows State Park after a patron walking her dog found a body in the river near the bank.

Middletown Detectives responded to Haddam Meadows and positively identified the woman as 51-year-old Janeen Shaw of Middletown.

"Our condolences go out to the Shaw family and friends," police said.
