Discount Overstock Chain Big Lots Coming to Former A&P Plaza
The closeout merchandise department store will offer Middletown — and Middlesex County — shoppers a place closer to home to pick up household items.

Big Lots, the discount overstock chain with 12 locations in Connecticut, will soon find a home in the former Super Foodmart A&P Plaza on Washington Street in Middletown, according to the Middletown Press.
The large spot, vacant since 2010, hopes to attract consumers from throughout the county in its new location on Route 66.
“We’re very excited and happy that it will contribute a various amount to the town,” Middlesex Chamber of Commerce President Larry McHugh told the Middletown Press. “It’s a good national firm coming in and we think it’ll be economically viable. I’m optimistic about it.”
Customers who frequent the Big Lots store on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington now have a closer location for home goods, electronics, outdoor furniture and items, gifts, pet supplies, jewelry, apparel and accessories.
