Distracted drivers can expect to get pulled over in Middletown this month.

MIDDLETOWN, CT — Middletown police Tuesday said drivers should expect to see increased distracted driving enforcement for the duration of the Month.
Police did not disclose the locations of the enforcement details, but did hint at citywide increased patrols.
"Don’t let the distractions cost you," police said. "Together we can make Middletown safer for everyone on the road."

According to the state Department of Transportation, Connecticut law prohibits the use of any hand-held mobile electronic device while operating a motor vehicle.
Drivers who are 16 and 17 cannot use cell phone or mobile device at any time, even with a hands-free accessory, according to the DOT.

"The Connecticut Department of Transportation urges everyone to put their phones down when they get behind the wheel. Pull over and park in a safe place if you need to send a text," officials said.
Violating Connecticut’s distracted-driving laws can be costly. Drivers receiving tickets face fines $200 for the first offense, $375 for the second offense, and $625 for the third and subsequent offenses, according to the DOT.
Tickets for distracted driving in a works zone cost $400, $750 and $1,250, respectively, according to the DOT.
