Middletown Man In Custody On High Bond In Child Sex Assault Case

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A Middletown man remained in custody Thursday after being arrested two days earlier for asexual assault following a major crimes investigation in Colchester, state police said.

On April 8, art 5:45 p.m., detectives with the Eastern District Major Crimes Squad located 36-year-old Daniel Carmody and arrested him on an active warrant, state police said. The warrant was secured as part of a lengthy sexual assault investigation after an incident in Colchester, state police said.

  • Illegal sexual contact with a victim younger than 13
  • Second-degree sexual assault
  • Third-degree sexual assault
  • Fourth-degree sexual assault
  • Risk of injury to a child

Carmody was initially held on a $250,000 bond, which was upheld at his arraignment on Wednesday and he is scheduled for a second court appearance on May 12 in Norwich, according to judicial system records.

The case dates back to Nov. 18, when state police received a complaint about a sexual assault involving Carmody and a girl at a residence in Colchester.

According to a warrant, Carmody art first touched the girl and it led to more sexually explicit acts. The girl told investigators that the encounters numbered more than 10 and he told the girl not to tell anyone, according to a warrant.

Those around the girl began suspecting Carmody after be began apologizing, according to a warrant. The girl's testimony to investigators was also very detailed, according to a warrant.
