MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Fall season brings excellent fall foliage colors, making great photos. But as the leaves fall off the trees, Middletown has announced improvements to this year’s leaf collection program.

This year's Curbside Vacuum Collection program will begin on Monday, Nov. 13, with crews making two rounds through the city, finishing on Dec. 8

All leaves must be at the curb by Nov. 29, the latest for pickup.

Leaves will not be picked up before Nov. 13, except for bagged leaves in the Sanitation District. Leaves may not be blown into the street. All leaf piles must be placed behind the curb or edge of the road. Brown paper bags are encouraged for safety. Leaves will not be picked up if they are in plastic bags.

However, all other residents who wish to dispose of leaves before Nov. 13 may bring them directly to the Middletown Recycling Center during regular operating hours.

Sanitation District Residents who wish to have their leaves picked up earlier may place leaves in brown paper leaf bags (no plastic bags) along the curb's back side starting Monday, Oct. 9. Bags must be free of branches, grass and yard waste.

Besides picking up leaves, Middletown also encourages residents to use natural leaf disposal methods. Mulching or composting leaves on the property is the most environmentally friendly option for leaf disposal.

During the leaf collection season and through the winter, the brush and bulky waste pickups will be suspended starting on Friday, Oct. 20. Pickups will resume in the spring.
