New Trooper from Middletown Appointed in Durham

The trooper is expected to begin his post at the end of June.

Trooper First Class Larry Morello has been appointed as the new Resident State Trooper for the Town of Durham and will begin his post at the end of this month. Morello has been a Connecticut State Trooper for 9 years and has been assigned to Troop F in Westbrook as a patrol trooper.

Morello was also assigned to the Safe Streets Hartford Task Force in the City of Hartford in 2008, in which he assisted the Hartford Police Department during the summer months in an effort to combat crime in the city.

He has been awarded the Connecticut State Police Medals for Life Saving and Outstanding Police Service in 2012 and a Unit Citation in 2008. He was also awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award in 2005 and 2007.

Morello served as a temporary Resident State Trooper in the town of Old Lyme in 2011. Prior to his State Police service, TFC Morello was a Police Officer in the State Capitol Police Department from 2002 to 2003 and then a Police Officer in the town of Town of South Windsor from 2003 to 2005 when he was selected by the Connecticut State Police.

“I am extremely excited with my new assignment as the Durham Resident Trooper,” Morello said. “It has been a career goal of mine to become the Resident Trooper in Durham, as I have worked the area for several years as patrol trooper and have developed great relationships with many people who live and work in town. I very much look forward to being a resource for people in town and to be in a position where I can really help people when they need it while doing my best to keep Durham safe.”

Prior to his law enforcement career, Morello was the assigned driver/executive assistant for then Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz from 1999 to 2002. He graduated from Xavier High School in Middletown and Manchester Community College with a degree in criminal justice. He is a graduate of the Connecticut State Police Academy as well as the Connecticut Municipal Police Academy.

First Selectman Laura Francis said, “I welcome Trooper Morello to the Town of Durham. He has the experience to work with our public safety team and address pressing areas of concern in our community. There will be multiple opportunities for the public to meet Trooper Morello, including the Farmer’s Market on Thursdays when available.”

Trooper Timothy Kendrick said he thoroughly enjoyed his temporary assignment as the Resident State Trooper in Durham and the friends that he made with the people in town. Kendrick will return to Troop F as a patrol Trooper.

Francis also said, “I want to thank Trooper Timothy Kendrick for his service as temporary Resident State Trooper. He provided quality police work during our transition.”

During the past year while Kendrick has been in town, State Police Troopers (Kendrick along with other State Troopers from Troop F) conducted 83 criminal investigations, investigated 139 car accidents, made 9 DWI arrests and handled 5,717 calls for service in Durham.

Troopers also issued 798 motor vehicle infractions and 224 warnings in an effort to keep the motorists safe while traveling in town.

Kendrick has been a Connecticut State Police Trooper for 2 years and has served as the temporary Resident State Trooper in Durham for the past year. Prior to becoming a Connecticut State Trooper, Kendrick was a Police Officer in the town of Middletown, Rhode Island from 2010 to 2013.

Kendrick participated and was involved with the planning of the April 2015 Mass Casualty Disaster Drill conducted at the Durham Fairgrounds. He has done an outstanding job in his temporary role as the Durham Resident Trooper. Kendrick has also participated in organizing the traffic control for the Memorial Day parade, as well as organizing the public safety at several events held at the Durham Fairgrounds.

Prior to his law enforcement career, Kendrick was a college baseball coach at Arkansas State University from 2009 to 2010 and Mississippi College from 2006 to 2009. Kendrick is a graduate of Onondaga Community College in New York, Keene State College in New Hampshire and Mississippi College where he received a masters degree in higher education administration. Kendrick is also a graduate of the Connecticut State Police Academy and the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.
