Obituary: George Columbus Battle, Jr., 74, of Middletown
George, a talented athlete in his youth and talented saxophone player, worked at Middlesex Hospital for over 40 years.
MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Doolittle Funeral Home) George Columbus Battle, Jr., 74, of Middletown, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Wadsworth Glen.
Born in Meriden, he was the son of the late Rev George and Addie (Scott) Battle, Sr.
George lived in Middletown all of his life. He played on Middletown High School’s All State Basketball Team in 1964 and was on Track and Field Team.
George graduated Central CT State College in 1969 and was employed at Middlesex Hospital for over 40 years.
He was a member of Cross Street AME Zion Church where he belonged to the Men’s Choir and was a saxophone player.
George loved reading and music and was an avid record collector.
George is survived by two brothers, William J. Battle, Sr. of North Charleston, SC and Rev. James M. Battle (Susan G. Battle) of Bloomfield; a sister, Addie Christine Allen (Claude) of Scotts Plain, NJ; three nieces, Alexus Battle, Andrea Charles and Nicole Charles-Pierre and several great nieces and great nephews.
Along with his parents, George was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Joyce Battle and a nephew, William Battle, Jr.
Funeral services will be private.
