Obituary: Thomas J. Olszewski, 85, of Middletown

Thomas enjoyed a long career as a printer, was a proud U.S. Army veteran and was heavily involved in the community.

MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Thomas J. Olszewski, of Middletown, CT, formerly of Valhalla, NY, passed away, surrounded by love, on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was 85 years old.

Thomas was the beloved husband to the late Marie (Filardo) Olszewski for 51 years.

Thomas was born in Brooklyn, NY, on September 27, 1936, the eldest son of the late Stephen and Helen (Markowski) Olszewski and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He was employed as a printer and was a very active member of St. Pius X Church in Middletown, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
He is survived by his five children, Marianna Rivers and her husband John of Southington, CT, Liz Rivers and her husband Scott of Meriden, CT, Suzanne Owen and her husband Kevin of Madison, CT, Frank Olszewski and his wife Tammy of Akron, OH, and Steve Olszewski and his wife Christine of Las Vegas, NV.

He was a very loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren, Alianna Olszewski, Amanda (Jason) Tierinni, Matt Rivers, Christopher Olszewski, Jack & Lainey Rivers, Sophia, Luke & Elise Owen, Peyton Olszewski and his great-grandson Noah Tierinni. He was predeceased by his eldest son, Thomas Olszewski, Jr.

Thomas was also an active volunteer, extremely generous with his time.

He enjoyed working with the Franciscan Nuns in Meriden, CT as well as Holy Apostles College in Cromwell, CT.

He made friends everywhere he went with his easy smile, and gift of conversation.

He will be missed beyond measure by those who loved him.

His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, CT, on Wednesday, December 1st, from 4pm until 7pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. directly at St. Pius X Church, 310 Westfield St., Middletown. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests that gifts in his memory may be made to the Association of the Miraculous Medal (www.amm.org).
