PD: Mom Charged After Repeatedly Punching Son While Driving

A city woman faces assault charges after Middletown Police say she punched her son multiple times while driving on the highway.
On July 13 at 4:47 p.m., Mary Ann Richardson, 48, of Plaza Drive was in the upper arcade parking lot on Court Street fighting with her son in a Jeep SUV, according to the report.

Richardson was extremely angry, police say, and hit her head several times against the car door window and the seat while screaming. "You don't know what it is like dealing with him!" she told police.
A witness, according to the report, saw a "rolling domestic" take place on Route 9 near Exit 15, in which Richardson punched her son repeatedly and pushed him while yelling.

After a few minutes, the report says, he punched her back. Police say Richardson told police her son tried to take her keys out of the ignition so she punched him. The boy was sent to his father in Cheshire and a restraining order issued.
She was charged with breach of peace and third-degree assault.
