Sens. Blumenthal, Murphy Talk Student Loan Rate Hike at Middlesex
Interest rates on subsidized Stafford student loans doubled on July 1 from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent, resulting in an additional $1,000 in student loan debt for more than 7 million students nationwide.

Two days after Congressional inaction allowed the interest rate to double on certain subsidized student loans, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Congressman Joe Courtney (D-2), and staff from the office of Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-3) will meet with Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, Middlesex Community College President Anna Wasescha, faculty and students to discuss how the increase will impact their lives.
The meeting will take place Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 2:15 PM, in Room 803 of Chapman Hall at Middlesex Community College in Middletown.
