NEWINGTON, CT — The owner of a prominent gun store in town is in trouble with the law after being charged earlier this month with stealing a gun and trying to sell it.

According to online Connecticut court listings, Scott Hoffman, who is the owner of Hoffman's Guns for the Good Guys on 2686 Berlin Turnpike, has been charged by Newington police with stealing a firearm and second-degree larceny.

He is released on $25,000 bond and is next expected in New Britain Superior Court on Nov. 5.

According to WTNH Channel 8, citing an arrest warrant, Hoffman is accused of attempting to sell a stolen gun in July of this year.

WTNH reported the issue stems from a valuable shotgun that was accidentally shipped to Hoffman in 2019 and, subsequently, kept for a future sale.

The gun, however, was reported stolen that year by UPS, which was delivering it from Virginia to a Tennessee Bass Pro Shops store, WTNH reported.

Hoffman's has been in the news in recent years, with the store targeted by burglars and a former employee charged with embezzling from the store.
