Tolland Man Accused Of Speeding Past Stopped Newington Officer: NPD

Local police said the 22-year-old was driving recklessly and dangerously, with footage released showing him speeding past an officer.

NEWINGTON, CT — Newington police were out in full force Saturday enforcing the rules of the road, with one Tolland resident taken into custody after police said he sped by a stopped officer on a busy roadway.

In a release issued Monday, Aug. 18, the Newington Police Department identified the suspect as Aidan Fischer, 22, of Tolland, who was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, interfering with a police officer, reckless driving, disobeying traffic control signals, failure to drive in the proper lane, failure to display plates, and engaging police in pursuit.

Fischer was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court Aug. 29.

According to a report released by the NPD on Monday, on Saturday, Aug. 15, officers observed a vehicle traveling at a dangerously high rate of speed, recklessly passing both police officers and other motorists on multiple occasions.

"The operator’s actions created significant danger for the public and law enforcement personnel," wrote police.

With the assistance of Connecticut State Police, officers were able to identify the vehicle and safely take the operator into custody.

The NPD released footage of Fischer's vehicle speeding past a local officer who was in the middle of a separate traffic stop.

In addition to Fischer's case, officers were conducting proactive traffic enforcement throughout the
community on Saturday, Aug. 16.

"These efforts led to multiple vehicles being towed for various violations, reflecting the department’s commitment to roadway safety and reducing hazardous driving behaviors," wrote the NPD.
