Norwich Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After Chase

NORWICH, CT – A local man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Centreville Bank on Wednesday morning.

Police said Santinho Samacau, 20, of 45 Ann St., was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, first-degree reckless endangerment, criminal use of a firearm, first-degree threatening, interfering with an officer, carrying a pistol without a permit, and possession of a high capacity magazine.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Police were summoned to the 40 High St. bank shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses provided a description of the suspect and told police he had a firearm. Police said they located a man running away from the bank and took him into custody after a short foot chase.

According to police, Samacau had a loaded semi-automatic handgun in his possession and a “large amount” of cash.
