Police say the Ice Cream Patrol will be a common sight at local parks, community events and neighborhoods.

NORWICH, CT — Local police will be serving up frozen treats while building community relationships with a new initiative, the Ice Cream Patrol.
The department has a new all-electric ice cream truck, a customized Chevrolet BrightDrop, for the program.
The Ice Cream Patrol will be a familiar sight at local parks, community events, and on neighborhood patrols, according to Lt. Kyle Besse.

“The Ice Cream Patrol is more than a truck, it’s a bridge between our officers and the residents we serve,” police said, in an announcement.
The department officially unveiled the truck and handed out free frozen goodies during its National Night Out event Aug. 5 at Howard T. Brown Park.

The department credited the local business community with making the Ice Cream Patrol possible. The program is primarily funded through sponsorships, and ongoing support is needed, according to police.
“Contributions will help provide free ice cream for community members and keep this program thriving,” police said.
Individuals or organizations who want to support the program should contact police at 860-886-5561 or email Lt. Kyle Besse at Kbesse@cityofnorwich.org.
