Norwich Man Drowns At State Park In Northern Connecticut: DEEP
The drowning victim at a state park Sunday has been identified as a Norwich man, state officials said.

UNION, CT — A Norwich man visiting Bigelow Hollow State Park drowned Sunday at a lake inside the park, according to the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
DEEP spokesperson James Fowler said Environmental Conservation Police, Connecticut State Police and local fire and emergency crews went to the park Sunday afternoon for a report of a drowning.
The incident happened at a picnic area near the boat launch on Mashapaug Lake. The launch is located at the extreme southern end of the lake. The area is not authorized for swimming.

The person was removed from the water and taken to an area hospital, but later pronounced dead, according to the DEEP.
On Monday evening, drowning victim was identified as Jorge Cruz, 20, of Norwich.

"We extend our continued condolences to Mr. Cruz’s family and loved ones following this tragic loss," DEEP officials said.
