West Hartford Playwright Opens Chestnut Street Play Festival

Festival Spotlights CT Playwrights

West Hartford playwright Stuart Brown’s one-act play, Lady Jigsaw, will be leading off the Chestnut Street Playhouse Theatre’s 5th Annual Playwrighting Festival on Friday, September 5 at 7pm. The event runs from Friday, September 5 through Sunday, September 7. The theater is located in Norwich. “I’m very excited to be part of the Chestnut Street Playhouse Festival,” said Brown, who is also President of the Connecticut Critics Circle. “I think audiences will enjoy the show. It takes place in a senior retirement complex, where two senior adults must overcome their individual grief, loneliness and an irascible competitor, as they prepare for the annual jigsaw puzzle tournament.”

Other plays in this year’s Festival are “Phone Home” by Laura Thomas (Saturday, 9/6 at 2 pm), “Carole’s Christmas” by Emma Palzere-Rae ( Saturday, 9/6 at 2:15 pm), “The Odd I See” by J. Mason Beiter (Saturday 9/6 at 7 pm), and “Bound” by Ed Bernstein (on Sunday 9/7 at 2 pm.

Each play will be followed by a talkback with playwright, director and actors. For more information on the Festival and to purchase tickets, go to the theater’s website - https://www.chestnutstreetplayhouse.org.
