Local Woman Charged With Stabbing Boyfriend
Newington resident Debra Drena was also accused of getting into a dispute with her grandmother.

A 35-year-old Newington woman is facing multiple charges after police said she stabbed her boyfriend and got into an altercation with her grandmother during a domestic incident on Thursday.
The suspect, Debra Drena, was arrested after Newington officers responded to her home at 63 Brookside Road in the northern part of that town around 10:25 a.m.
According to a Newington Police Department press release, after the officers encountered Drena they made contact with her boyfriend, who they discovered sustained a single stab wound to the abdomen as well as other minor injuries.
Police said a fight had taken place between Drena and her boyfriend, which started off with verbal argument earlier in the day but escalated into a physical dispute. During the incident, Drena had gotten into a physical altercation with her grandmother and, in the process, had stabbed her boyfriend as well, police said.
After learning about the stabbing the grandmother, who is 89, ran to a neighbor's house to call 911, police said. She sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Medics from the American Medical Response evaluated the boyfriend and rushed him to a local hospital. He was treated for his injuries and released, police said. Police did not state whether he would face charges in the case.
Drena was charged with the following:
- Second-degree assault
- Assault on the elderly in the third-degree
- Unlawful restraint
- Disorderly conduct
- Criminal mischief in the third-degree
- Reckless Endangerment
- Interfering with an emergency call
She was held on a $50,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on on Aug. 9.
