In Memoriam: Joseph 'Joe' J. Gworek
The Rocky Hill resident passed away Dec. 26 at the age of 90.

Joseph ‘Joe’ John Gworek died peacefully at Hartford Hospital on the 26th of December after a short illness.
The third son of Jacob and Emelia Gworek, Joseph was born on December 3, 1925 in Rockville.

Immediately after graduating from Rockville High School in 1944, Joseph entered the military, following in the footsteps of his World War I veteran father. Joseph was a member of the Army’s 24th Signal Corp Heavy Construction Battalion, Company A. Safely returning from Europe after serving in World War II, Joseph enrolled and graduated from Hillyer College with a degree in accounting.
The Hartford Conservatory of Music benefited from Joseph’s eye for detail as he maintained their books for many years.

Joseph generously shared his Rockville home with his loving mother Emelia before meeting and marrying (1973) Maria “Pina” Tavarozzi and moving to Glastonbury followed by a move to Rocky Hill in 1995. Joseph shared his life with Pina until his passing.
An avid and gregarious golfer, Joseph formed the Rockville Men’s Golf Club in 1960 as a way of bringing friends together around a game they loved. Soon the club grew to 90 members that regularly enjoyed playing and socializing together.
Joseph is predeceased by brothers Richard and Edward, both World War II veterans, and survived by younger sisters Helen Kessler of Broad Brook, and Claire Eddy of Farmington. Adored by his many nieces and nephews for his gentle manner and ready wit, Joseph will be deeply missed by many and fondly remembered for the full life he led.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 5 at 9:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. The family will receive relatives and friends at 9:00 a.m. in the church vestibule. Burial with military honors will follow in the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Middletown.
