Big-Name Retailer Closing Division At South Windsor Distribution Center, 100-Plus Jobs Being Lost
More than 100 jobs are being lost as a large retailer is set to close a warehouse operation South Windsor.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — Macy's is closing the entire Backstage operation at its South Windsor distribution center and taking 106 jobs with it.
The announcement was made Tuesday in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification sent to Susan Fracasso, the Rapid Response Coordinator for the Connecticut Department of Labor and South Windsor Mayor Audrey Delnicki.
The center is located at 301 Governors Highway.

"At this point, the entire Backstage operation at the Macy's South Windsor location will be closing. Job eliminations are permanent and will occur between December 28, 2025, and January 10, 2026," according to the WARN Notice.
No employees are represented by a union, according to the WARN Notice.

The job losses are:
- ARO Coordinator - 5
- Asset Protection Officer - 1
- Core Trainer - 5
- Housekeeping - 1
- Lead, ICQA - 1
- Manager, Operations - 3
- Power Equipment Operator - 8
- Warehouse Associate - 77
- Warehouse Lead - 4
- Yard Driver - 1
- Total - 106
"Information about severance and other benefits will be made available to impacted employees as well as information about the opportunity to transfer to open positions in nearby Macy's locations. Macy's colleagues have no bumping rights. Should an employee be re-hired by Macy's at a later date, service date, pay rate and benefits will be in accordance with then-existing policies and practices," The WARN Notice stated.

The closure comes on the heels of a June move in which Macy's opened seven new Backstage "store-within-store locations" nationwide, including Trumbull. Other openings were in:
- Aurora, CO
- Champaign, IL
- Culver City, CA
- Erie, PA
- ·Hanover, MA
- Las Vegas, NV
In its second-quarter earning report, released two months ago, Macy's reported net sales of $4.8 billion, exceeding the company’s guidance.
