SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — After nearly four decades of family-oriented customer service to hungry patrons in the Sullivan Avenue Plaza, the owners of Geissler's Supermarket announced Monday afternoon they will soon be closing their store in the beleaguered shopping center.

The announcement came via social media, and indicated the final day for the South Windsor store will be July 17.

"After careful consideration, we want to share that Geissler’s has made the difficult decision to close our South Windsor location on July 17," the social media post stated. "We're incredibly grateful to our South Windsor customers and team for all the support over the years. It’s been our honor to be part of this community. Thank you for shopping local and for allowing us to be part of your lives for the last 37 years. We hope to continue serving you at our other locations."

Founded by Adolph Geissler in 1923 on Main Street in the Broad Brook section of East Windsor, the market grew to its current seven locations. Other sites are in East Windsor, Bloomfield, Somers, Granby, Windsor and Agawam, Mass.

The South Windsor store opened in 1988. For decades, the Sullivan Avenue Plaza was thriving, but various factors in recent years led to the departure of nearly all tenants and a general decaying of the property. Geissler's is the sole remaining tenant ... for another week and a half.
