The latest Gem looks small from the outside, but is actually massive in more ways than one.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — The old phrase "you can't judge a book by its cover" certainly applies in the case of this week's Hidden Gem. In a commercial park at 85 Nutmeg Road South, one pulls into that address looking for Lightning Fitness, but only sees a large light-colored building that seems like an office business.

On the left side of the building, not visible from the main road, is a single doorway with a simple Lightning Express sign above. Entering the facility, one would expect to find a small gym with a few pieces of equipment. From the outside, no one would expect to walk into a huge world-class training center.

Lightning Fitness occupies the second floor of the building, encompassing 27,000 square feet. It is far from your typical commercial gym, placing emphasis on strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, Olympic-style weightlifting and mixed martial arts.
