Picture South Windsor - Then And Now
An old photo and brief story from South Windsor's past, and how that site appears today.

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT — For today's periodic look at South Windsor's past, we return to a wonderful picture book called Images of America: South Windsor, compiled in 2017 by Claire Lobdell for the Wood Memorial Library & Museum. The book, containing 128 pages of fascinating photos from the town's history, is available for purchase at the library's museum store here.
This photo dates back to 1933 and shows the old two-room Rye Street Schoolhouse. Constructed in 1916 on a triangular lot in the fork between Rye Street and Windsorville Road, one room housed first- through fourth-grade students, while the other contained grades 5 through 8.
The building at 14 Windsorville Road is currently a private home. Here is a more contemporary view of the property.
